Tryout information
Tryouts are announced on an age/gender basis. Watch for posts on nwraa.net, and our facebook page, NWRAASoccer.
What is Rec-Plus?
Rec-Plus is basically an “All Star” program where players have an opportunity to compete at a somewhat higher level against other leagues within the state. NWRAA staff will conduct these tryouts and make the selections for the Rec-Plus team. Players that are chosen to be on the Rec-Plus team are required to also continue to play on a NWRAA Division III (Rec) team. In other words, Rec-Plus is in addition to your regular rec league play. MYSA requires that rec team obligations come first before any Rec-Plus obligations. In the past, practices have been on Wed. night and Sunday afternoons so as to not interfere with rec practices. However, this is not definite and will be determined later. NWRAA tries to schedule rec league games around any Rec-Plus tournaments and so forth. All age appropriate players are encouraged to attend these tryouts.
Cost of Rec-Plus
There are additional expenses associated with Rec-Plus. Typically, there will be a uniform expense, coaching fees, tournament registration, etc… The training fees are typically $6 per player per practice or Rec-Plus game. This again is to cover the cost of the professional coach/coaches that will be coaching and/or training the Rec-Plus team. Likewise, there is some travel involved. In past years, the Rec-Plus team traveled out of town tournaments included but not limited to Starkville, Gulfport, Meridian.
Commitment
It is quite a recognition for a player to be chosen for the Rec-Plus team. It will require time and hard work on the player’s part. In return, the player will receive a level of coaching and play that serves to improve that player’s skills and knowledge of the game far beyond any other experience they could gain at this age level. NWRAA truly has a great Rec-Plus program. As you can imagine, there will be a limited number of positions on the Rec-Plus team or teams. The coaching staff will be committed to improving the individual players and the team as a whole. Much work and team building exercises will be done over the course of the Rec-Plus season. Because of this, we are asking that parents and players make a commitment to the team for the entire season. This is a very important aspect and this is why the league is asking for your commitment now.
